Student Prizes

The Department offers a number of awards, prizes and scholarships each year. Every winner will receive a certificate that records their achievement plus the prize as detailed below.

The undergraduate and honours prizes are awarded at the annual Friends of DIS Awards

Application Process

No application is required for the Department of Information Systems prizes. Recipients will be nominated by DIS staff based on student results and other criteria as specified in the award. Applications for University awards and for postgraduate scholarships are required and application details are provided with the information on each award.

Department of Information Systems Awards

Protiviti Award For Excellence

The Protiviti Award for Excellence comprises $250 and a certificate acknowledging the student's achievement, provided by Protiviti. The prize is awarded to the student achieving the best results in subject ISYS90032 Emerging Technologies and Organisational Processes.

The Deloitte PSP Awards

Three awards are made annually for participation and attendance in the Department's Professional Skills Program in the previous year. Cash prizes of $100 will be presented to students demonstrating the best attendance and participation. These prizes are kindly supported by Deloitte.

Ernst and Young Industry Project Award

An award is made to the team achieving the highest mark for subject 615-370 / 615-373 Industry Project from the previous year. Our industry partner Ernst and Young is supporting the cash prizes to each of the winning team members.

DIS Volunteer Award

This prize is awarded for outstanding contribution to the voluntary activities in the Department. Voluntary activities include Buddies, Welcome day, peer mentoring and Orientation week volunteers.

Zanity Awards for Achievement in Science Informatics

Three prestigious annual prizes are awarded for first, second and thirds year students with the highest achievement in Science Informatics subjects. The cash prizes are the initiative of Zanity's Johnny Smoes, a University of Melbourne Bachelor of Information Systems (Hons) alumnus. 

Australian Computer Society (ACS) Awards

Prizes of free ACS membership for 1 year (value $60) plus free student registration at the IT Professional Conference (value $300) are provided by the ACS. Each year, ACS invites the Department to nominate a high achieving student who completed their undergraduate degree in the previous year in each of our undergraduate courses accredited by the ACS (BIS, B.Com/BIS, BSc/BIS, BGeom/BIS).

Honours Scholarships

The Department offers up to 3 Honours scholarships of $4,000 each year to high achieving students who are enrolled in the Honours program in the Department. The award is made on the basis of students who have achieved at least an average of H1 (80% or greater) in their best five 300 level subjects.

Postgraduate Scholarships

The University offers scholarships for research higher degree studies. For more information, see the Scholarship Office site.
