I joined Brisbane punk band the Pits while at high school in 1979. This group explored several punk and post-punk genres and supported bands such as the Go-Betweens and the Fall before breaking up in 1982. After that I helped form the Dum-Dums with vocalist Greg "Tex" Perkins, drummer Greg Gilbert from the Pits and my brother Ian on guitar. After some lineup changes we moved to Sydney in 1983 and played around Darlinghurst with some of the bands of that era. This was great, but I realized music was not going to be my full-time vocation, and I returned to Brisbane to study before heading south again in 1987. In Melbourne I started New Waver and the Spill label and studio, and played in several other outfits, see below.
Through the Spill label I've worked on a number of Australian releases.
I sometimes guest-announce on the 3CR show Two to the Valley.
