Network Drives
When you logon to a DIS computer, there are several network drives that are mapped automatically under the drive letters H, P and W. These drives can be seen from within My Computer (Double-click the My Computer icon on the desktop). If any of these drives are missing, you can map the drives yourself by clicking here.Below is an explanation of each drive and its purpose:
- H Drive - the H drive is your home drive for you to save any data that you need. This drive has a quota applied. Once you have exceeded this amount, you will be unable to save any further data. See Quota Allocations below, to see how much space you are assigned. (*Note: Undergrauates are only provided a personal H: drive, if it is required for a specific subject)
Warning: If you save work to the C:\ drive of the computer you are using, you will not be able to access this from any other computers in the department. Other students will also have access to this data. - W Drive - The W drive is your own personal webpage. This should be used to save the files that make up your webpage. This drive has a quota applied. Once you have exceeded this amount, you will be unable to save any further data. See Quota Allocations below, to see how much space you are assigned. (*Note: Undergraduates are only provided space to create a personal webpage, if it is required for a specific subject)
- P Drive - Public drive. The public drive is a shared drive that all students have access to. Here students will find a range of information such as individual subject folders, and other useful resources. Some assignments submission folders are also located here.
Quota Allocations
Students are allocated a set amount of space to store files on their H drives. Additionally, postgraduate students are also provided a set amount of space to create a web page in ('W' Drive). Undergraduate students will only be provided a W drive, if it is required by one of their subjects.

LMS and Alternative Student Storage
Undergraduate students are only granted the use of a personal H: drive, if it is required for a specific subject. Those students that do not have access to a H: drive, should store their teaching-related material in the LMS system
