How to..


Account Creation for New Students


To obtain access to your Department of Information Systems (DIS) resources ( E.g. H:, W: and P:) you must:

  • Have an ITS account
  • Be enrolled at the University of Melbourne (E.g. You have a STUDENT CARD)
  • Be enrolled in at least one Information Systems Subject (E.g. Subject code beginning with 615)

If you fulfil these two requirements you can proceed by following the steps below:

1. Set up your ITS account (E.g. Your University Email Account)

1a. Research Students only: Send your ITS username to Jen Sullivan (jens@unimelb.edu.au) so that your account resources can be created

2. Ensure that you read the Departments Laboratory Regulations and are familar with the Lab Statute/Policy

2a. Research Students only: Read the departments Laboratory Regulations and Accept the terms of the DIS Laboratory Policy by filling out and submitting an ONLINE Laboratory Declaration Form 

3. WAIT 48 HOURS

If you have problems logging onto DIS computers, or any account related issues, please contact the departmental helpdesk (Level 4, Room 4.42 111 Barry Street)

The helpdesk is open from Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm during semester

Setup your ITS Account

Your ITS account is your University of Melbourne email account, which takes the following form:

  • username@ugrad.unimelb.edu.au (Undergraduate Students)
  • username@pgrad.unimelb.edu.au (Postgraduate Students)
  1. Go to: https://accounts.unimelb.edu.au/manage
  2. Click on the Student button
  3. Complete the details and then press the Student button
  4. This will then create your ITS account, and display your username and password

My account is locked out


If you are try to logon, and receive a popup window saying that your account is locked, it means that you have tried entering your password incorrectly too many times.

To unlock your account either:
  • Come to the Helpdesk, and a Staff member will assist you with accessing http://accounts.unimelb.edu.au to reset your password. Doing this will unlock your account. (Level 4, Room 4.42 111 Barry Street. The helpdesk is open Monday to Friday 9:00am - 5:00pm during semester)

  • Wait 30 minutes and your account will automatically unlock

Login to a DIS Computer

To log onto your DIS account within the department, please follow the instructions below:

  • Username: your ITS username
  • Password: your entire library barcode
  • Make sure the domain selected is STUDENT

Note: You must use a department computer to log on to this account

Change my windows password


To change your windows password:
  1. Log in to http://accounts.unimelb.edu.au
      Once in the Accounts page, Click STUDENT
      Enter in your details and Click STUDENT
      Select your ITS Central Student Account
      Select Reset
      Your password must be 8 characters in length, and must contain at least one non-alphabetical letter
  2. Log in to https://webmail.student.unimelb.edu.au/
      Once you have logged on to Home.Student
      Click Options
      Click Change Password
      Enter in your old password followed by your new password
      Click Change Password
Note: Please ensure that you change your password before the end of the semester, to ensure that your password does not expire whilst on holiday
