Interaction Design Group
We are a thriving interdisciplinary group focused on understanding and improving interactive technology for people. We are a group within the Department of Information Systems. We span a diverse range of research, exploring both desktop and mobile technologies, though we cluster around the following major interests:
Novel interaction paradigms
Especially 'off the desk' interaction like ubiquitous and mobile computing. We are especially interested in design for engagement, emotion and non-goal oriented use.
Understanding and supporting social activity
Including computer supported cooperative play and personal task management.
Complex and sensitive settings
Especially 'out of the office' situations, e.g. the home, care settings, emergency management situations.
Stretching the use centred toolkit
For example use-centred innovation, mobile usability, tool centred usability engineering.
Research methods in interaction design
Including techniques for studying mobile use and use in sensitive settings, understanding social activity and actor network theory.
Much of this work is conducted with the support of external agencies, including the Australian Research Council, NH & MRC, Smart Internet Cooperative Research Centre, Novell (Customers of the Future programme), Sensis.
