Facilities and Services for Postgrad Students

 

 

 

 

Postgraduate Facilities in the ICT building include:

  • State-of-the-art lecture theatres and tutorial rooms
  • Bookable syndicate rooms for group project work, plus a lounge and informal chat areas
  • Two computer laboratories dedicated for the use of ICT post-graduate students
  • Study rooms for postgraduate coursework students to carrels with network points for personal laptop connection
  • Lockers for full-time students to store their personal belongings
  • Dial-in access to allow students to research and study at their office or home
  • Casual parking available in the University Square car park

The Graduate Centre

The ICT Building is also located within 5 minutes walk of the Graduate Centre, which provides post-graduate students from across the University with a range of support services and a lively environment. The Graduate Centre houses the School of Graduate Studies (SGS) and The University of Melbourne Postgraduate Association (UMPA). The School aims to promote collegiality and broaden the academic and cultural horizons of postgraduate students. The School offers a program of lectures and events to all post-graduate students including orientation, skills development, library research services and graduate news bulletins. The Graduate Centre also provides a bar and bistro; a loft and quiet study rooms; seminar rooms and conference facilities; a print room; a study centre; and student carrels.

Alumni Program

As members of the University community, postgraduate students are well placed to network with their fellow students within their own course and across the University. Upon completing their course, graduates become part of the University's Alumni program which serves a constituency of 130,000 former students who hold qualifications from well over 100 different degree programs. Currently Melbourne alumni can be found in 101 countries around the world.

Master of Information Systems graduates are also automatically eligible for membership of the University of Melbourne Information Systems Alumni (UMISA) network. UMISA promotes University of Melbourne ICT graduates to industry, and assists graduates to keep in touch and network with one another - regardless of where their careers or entrepreneurship may take them. The UMISA office is located in the ICT Building.

Other Student Services

The University also offers a range of services to students including: careers advice and employment assistance, counseling, health and dental care, child care, learning programs, disability support, legal, library, housing, international student programs, orientation and more.
