Why am I doing the MIS? As the executive business consultant to the president of iPerintis, I was interested in the technology industry, however, I recognised the need for managerial skills to be effective in managing IT. I was attracted to the balance offered by the Master of Information Systems since it is focused on managing IT.
How am I finding the Masters Degree? Without a doubt, University of Melbourne holds a renowned reputation for not only academic excellence but also an integrated relationship with companies in Australia. I specifically enjoyed the network created through the impressive list of guest speakers who bring their real world knowledge into the classroom. The program has exposed me to the industry in Melbourne and the players I could aspire to work with upon the completion of my course. |

Why am I doing the MIS? After a move from the UK via Adelaide, I was looking around for postgraduate course options in Melbourne. What I really wanted was a Masters course which involved the technical aspects that I enjoy as part of my work, comb ined with the business management side of things. I wanted something that was going to broaden my skills base and improve my management decision making. Obviously Melbourne has a very good reputation. But it was that balance between the management side and the technical side which really meant the MIS stood out for me.
How am I finding the Masters Degree? I would be pleased to recommend the MIS to prospective students. Some things which I have found particularly useful have been the guest lectures from external practitioners, including CIOs from leading companies. When you have access to these senior industry figures who offer up their vast experience, you have the opportunity to relate your learning to the practical examples they describe and obtain an insight into high-level management decision-making.
I believe the MIS will broaden my knowledge and skills, and as a result will make me much more saleable to employers in the industry. |

Why am I doing the MIS? I chose the Master of Information Systems with Melbourne University because of the broad range of options I knew the course would provide for my future career. Melbourne University’s outstanding global reputation combined with the technical and managerial skills taught in the MIS will allow me to direct my career in the direction I want to proceed. I was also attracted to the flexibility the MIS offered in allowing me to work with a Program Director to develop a program unique to my needs and aspirations. This recognition of my past experience and skills I’ve developed over the past 3 years working in IT Consulting has meant that I can focus on the classes that I know will improve my career opportunities.
How am I finding the Masters Degree? I would highly recommend the MIS course to students looking for a pathway into the business side of IT. All of the lecturers that I’ve been fortunate enough to study with have years of industry experience in their field of expertise and the classes focus on the real-life application of the course material. The depth of knowledge demonstrated by guest speakers and lecturers has been inspiring. |
