Bachelor of Information Systems (Honours) - Content

• 615-496 Information Systems Research Project (50 points) and
  
• Four subjects of 12.5 points each, as follows

615-610 Research Methods in Information Systems (available in semester one only)

Three other approved subjects from the list of postgraduate subjects.
Please note that Honours students may not choose:

615-501 Themes in Information Systems
615-570 Database Systems and Information Modelling
615-572 Information Systems Analysis and Design
615-690 Minor Research Project in IS
615-695 MIS Consulting Project

Note that you take two electives during your first semester of study, and only one elective during your second semester. This allows you to concentrate on your research project during your second semester.

Please note, talented undergraduate students wishing to enter the Honours program at mid-year will be required to undertake 615-610 Research Methods in Information Systems as part of their undergraduate course. Special permission is required.

Content
This subject requires the student to complete a research project of his or her own, under the direction of a staff member. Normally this will involve an empirical study. Successful completion of the research project will result in preparation of a paper suitable for submission to an Australian Conference in Information Systems or to an Australian Information Systems or Computer Science research journal.

Assessment
Hurdle Requirements for completion of this subject

• Oral presentation of a summary of the research project at the end of the subject.
  
• Attendance at relevant presentations in the Department seminar program and special lectures.
  

• A written report at the end of the subject, not to exceed 60 pages including figures and bibliography.
  
• A poster presentation summarising the written report.

• broaden knowledge of a range of more advanced topics in information systems;
  
• provide a general introduction to the process and practice of research in Information Systems;
  
• enable the acquisition of research skills and current knowledge in specific areas of Information Systems;
  
• encourage the development of the abilities to think critically and independently;
  
• improve oral and written communication skills and other professional competencies.
